What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

First, I would like to thank SewBeckyJo for the title of this post. If it wasn't for her, I don't think I would have ever known about that movie....mostly because it's a horror movie, and I don't usually do horror movies.  It doesn't really sound like a horror movie, though, does it?

A little while back, Dana at Winter Creek Cloth gave me a charm pack of Baby Jane by Eric and Julie Comstock (love this bio of them!) to play around with.  I got a little sidetracked with other projects and I couldn't decide how big I wanted it to be.  It started out that it was just going to be a wall hanging because I needed a break from quilts. But it kept growing. And the more I kept it pinned to my design wall, the more I loved it and wanted it to be bigger.

I HOPE to finish this quilt this weekend. This 40-hour-a-week job that I have is really getting in the way of my sewing time!!  Maybe I'll even pop some popcorn and watch "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" while I'm binding Baby Jane! Hmmmmm......that doesn't sound good.

Anyway, if you love Baby Jane as much as I do, Winter Creek Cloth has pre-cuts, bundles, and yardage at great prices!! Seriously great prices! Don't forget....if you subscribe to Winter Creek Cloth's newsletter, you can just reply to this month's email with QUILTS in the subject line to be entered to win a charm pack of Bobbins & Bits by Pat Sloan! And if you're not already signed up for their newsletter, you can email them from the website with NEWSLETTER QUILTS in the subject line to enter.

Oh, and one more thing.  I don't know about you, but I haven't been very good about following all of my favorite blogs since Google Reader went away, so I've started following my favorites by email. That way, I know I won't miss any posts.  You can follow my blog by entering your email in the "follow by email" on the right-hand side of my blog :) You can also follow me on Bloglovin', Facebook, and Instagram!

I'm a Rock Star Fishie!

OK, I know some of you may be wondering.....what the heck is a Rock Star Fishie? Or maybe you're saying to yourself...A Rock Star Fishie? What? How did SHE get to be a Rock Star Fishie???  Well, if you've heard of Amanda Herring of The Quilted Fish, chances are, you know what a Rock Star Fishie is! Amanda loves her customers, supporters, and fans, and wants to show off what all of us are making out of her fabric.  And this month I'm one of the Rock Star Fishies featured on her blog The Quilted Fish.

I absolutely love working with her fabric! Her latest line is Madhuri, and I jumped at the chance to use this fabric when Kelli at Seriously..I think it needs stitches asked me to test her Mod GeoCruiser pattern.

Each featured Rock Star Fishie receives a special necklace, and Amanda will send out a piece of fabric to each Rock Star to sign. Once she has received them, she will start making a quilt out of them. I love that!

It's not too late to become a Rock Star Fishie, so just head over to Amanda's blog and check it out!

Favorite Quilting Apps

Do you have any favorite quilting apps?  I recently switched from an iPhone to a Droid and was afraid that I might not be able to use my favorite quilting app - Robert Kaufman Quilting Calculator. I can't tell you how many times I've used this! And my international friends will be happy to know that it can be switched to metric!
Another favorite is the Joann's app. You can view the weekly ad, search for locations, or most importantly, view all available coupons! WHAT? That's right, just show your app to the cashier, and they can scan it! And you can use these in addition to the ones that you receive in the mail!
If you have any favorite quilting apps that you'd like to share, I'd love to know about them!

Hexie Fun

Have you see this Fiskar's Hexagon Paper Punch? It makes the perfect 1" hexies (1" measured from point to point down each side) This is making my hexie cutting so much easier and so much more fun!! I got it at Joann's and it was 40% off! Woot! Oh, and I must thank Caroline at Trillium Design for the tip!
I'm still making lots of hexies with my Hideaway fabric and just found another online source for ordering more - Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I got a little of each of the ones they had available. This is going to be such a fun quilt when I get it all put together.....one of these years.  Don't you just love the little birds and acorns and flowers?
Did you get your newsletter from Winter Creek Cloth last week? Every time I get mine, I just want to buy one of everything! I'm really liking the Modern Solids by Jason Yenter! You may have noticed that they're giving away some Halloween fabric, and the winner gets to choose between two different lines - The Boo Crew by Sweetwater or Not So Spooky Halloween by Jennifer Heynen.  All you need to do is reply to their newsletter with the word QUILTS in the subject line.  If you don't get their newsletter, go ahead and sign up now, and send them an email with NEWSLETTER QUILTS in the subject line.

Mod GeoCruiser

Some of you may remember the Make It Right Challenge earlier this year that was hosted by Art Gallery Fabrics. You had to use the Right Angles panel by Angela Walters and Pure Elements solids to make something awesome. I had this crazy idea that I might like to try it, so I bought my Right Angles panel and then thought about it over and over and over again while I was busy making my mom's Mother's Day Quilt and my Relay For Life Quilt. I'm not sure what made me think that I could possibly get anything else accomplished while making these two quilts AND working 40 hours a week. But I decided I would make it when I returned from my Mother's Day vacation in South Carolina. Then I got sick.....on the last day of vacation. And I was down for about two weeks. The challenge was not going to happen....for me anyway.

However, my friend Kelli of Seriously..I think it needs stitches was all over this challenge and immediately got to work on a design. Her design was so awesome that she won first place!!
She was then contacted by Nedra at Triangles on a Roll and asked if she would make one using their product. You should probably read Kelli's blog posts, starting with this one, of how everything just fell into place.

I offered to be a pattern tester for her using Triangles on a Roll.  I decided to make mine out of Madhuri (The Quilted Fish for Riley Blake). I love this fabric so much! All of it. And I especially love the selvage! These elephants are so flippin' cute!!!
Triangles on a Roll are pretty awesome. And so easy to use! I personally am not a big fan of tiny half square triangles, but this made it so much easier! And putting together all of those little HSTs was so much fun! There are a lot of pieces to this quilt, but it's so worth it! I mean look at this thing! It's so cool and so different!

Each Mod GeoCruiser quilt that has been made (2 by Kelli 1 by Nedra, and 1 by myself) has a totally different look.

Nedra's can be found here.
Kelli's latest can be found here.
You may notice that their quilts are already quilted. Mine is not. That's because they sent their's out to have it quilted, and I'll be quilting mine on my home sewing machine. Heck! I might even try out some FMQ! Oh, and I'll probably be putting one of these cute little elephants on the basket as soon as I figure out how I want to do that.

Kelli's latest Mod GeoCruiser quilt made with Gracie Girl (by Kassidy & Lori Holt for Riley Blake) is at Fabric Fest right now! And it's going to Quilt Market in Houston next! Woo hoo!

If you're interested in making one with your favorite fabric, or maybe trying a scrappy Mod GeoCruiser, you can purchase the pattern on Craftsy, Riley Blake (soon!) or Triangles on a Roll. If you make one, I know that Kelli would love to see it!

Quilting Adventures in Portland

Earlier this month, I was away having fun at the Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guild Meet-Up in Portland.  What a blast! It was fun hanging out with my CMQG peeps and meeting other blog/Facebook/Instagram friends! So many activities -- Charity sewing, personal sewing, prize giveaways, social time, classes, and goody bags!  Even a champagne brunch! So Much Fun! I didn't want it to end, yet I wanted to get back home. I even drove across two bridges while I was away, and I didn't have a panic attack! Ha ha! Not that I've actually had a panic attack on a bridge, but I dislike them very much, especially if I'm in the driver's seat!

As part of the meet-up, those who wanted to participate in the tote swap were given a half yard of the new Robert Kaufman Chambray Union Denim, donated by Robert Kaufman. I used the Valori Wells Marrakech fabric that I picked up at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in July to add to the denim.  I absolutely love both of these fabrics!!!
The bag that I received was made by Cath at Wombat Quilts. This was her first tote ever, and I think she did an excellent job! Don't you?
This is the banner that our guild (Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild) made to hang at Modern Domestic in Portland, where the meet-up was being held (You really should check that place out!) Pretty awesome, don't ya think? We'll add to it in the future, I'm sure, to make it even more awesome.
On Saturday, there was a charity sew and a personal sew. There was a shuttle available to take us to either place throughout the day. Here are some of the blocks that were made at the charity sew. Mine is the green one on the 4th row. I neglected to take any additional pictures that are worth posting :(
When I got home, the first thing my husband said was that he was sorry the house was a mess. But then I walked in and saw that my son was also there, and they had been working on the kitchen as part of my month-long birthday celebration.  Yes, even they know that my birthday lasts all month long :) My son and I had already painted most of the kitchen and dining room an off-white (painting over red), but they added the beadboard while I was gone and finished the painting of the walls! I LOVE these guys!  What a nice surprise! The area where the beadboard is covering was nothing but an empty space (aka dust collector), so now I can hang pretty things up there instead :) It's not complete - still need trim and paint - but it's so close! And here I thought he was working out in his garden all weekend.
After spending the weekend in Portland, I decided that I just really need to get up there more often. There's so much to do, and it definitely can't be done in a weekend, especially if you want to get some sewing time in. I'm hoping to get up there for the NW Quilting Expo in September, and maybe SewDown in February. At the time I'm writing this, it's the last day of my birthday month. It's been one of the best birthday months ever! Happy Birthday to Me!

This is 49.....and a Birthday Giveaway!

If you read my most recent post, you know that I celebrate my birthday for the whole month. Yes, you'll probably get tired of hearing me say that because this is NOT the last time you'll hear me say it this month :)  I was actually born on August 10th, so today will be a little extra special, and I'll even share it with you because that's just how I am!

I just turned 49 today, and I'm happier than I've ever been! While I was having my teeth cleaned earlier this week, my dental hygienist mentioned that she didn't become a dental hygienist until she was in her late 40s.  She had been a psychiatric nurse up until that time. She asked what I would like to do if I could do anything I wanted. I waited for her to take that awful dental tool out of my mouth and then told her that I would make things.  I've always made things. My mom was a seamstress (aka sewist) but I had no desire to sew when I was living at home. My first real attempt at creating was crocheting, then I moved on to knitting, then cross stitch, then scrapbooking, then finally quilting. I think I finally found it! I simply can't seem to get enough of it.

49.....
It's being happy and content with everything in my life.
It's being a 6-year cancer survivor.
It's being a mom to a healthy, happy 24-year-old son.
It's being married for 30 years to a wonderful husband.
It's having the best dog ever - Giacomo the Schnoodle.
It's having a loving and supportive family.
It's having great friends - friends that I get together with once a month (out to dinner with one group and MQG sew days with the others), friends that I've met online (yes, you can have friends that you've never met in person).

This is 49.

In celebration of being the great age of 49, I'm having a great little giveaway! Two winners will each receive a $20 gift certificate to Winter Creek Cloth!  All you need to do to enter is follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter below. That's it! And the winners will be chosen just in time for Winter Creek Cloth's Inventory Blow-Out Sale which starts on August 19th!

a Rafflecopter giveaway
By the way, have you checked out the Fab Shop Hop yet? There are so many shops participating, including Winter Creek Cloth! Great prizes to be given away! I've been hopping around and I don't think I've even gotten through half of them! Check it out!

It's My Birthday Month!

Happy Birthday To Me!

It's August 1st! That means it's the start of my birthday month! Woo hoo! For those of you who know me, you know what I'm talking about. For those of you who don't know me, let me tell you about my birthday month :) I spend every day in August celebrating in some way, even if it's just in spirit (but usually it's more than that).....just celebrating that I've made it to another birthday. August is also a big month for me because 6 years ago I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer, but I am cancer-free now!  These two things make every day (not just in August) worth celebrating!

Because August is such a big month for me, I'll be having a giveaway soon. More details to come on that, but I can give you a little hint.  It'll have something to do with Winter Creek Cloth.  :)

And speaking of Winter Creek Cloth, if you're signed up for their newsletter, you'll see some big news coming out in the next issue - I believe that comes out today! They'll be participating in a FabShopHop. So go to their website and sign up for the newsletter if you haven't already! You can also like their Facebook page for more information. I'll be posting more about it here and also on my Facebook page

You may remember my post last month about my charm pack of Baby Jane (Eric & Julie Comstock for Moda).  It was going to be a wall hanging, but I couldn't stop.  Here's a sneak peek at my progress.
I absolutely love this fabric! The print on the right with the red flowers is going to be the backing fabric for sure!  It's my favorite of all of them!

Hope you're all having a wonderful first day of August! Let's celebrate together, shall we? It's a tradition in my little family that when someone tells you happy birthday, you say "happy birthday" right back at them because we should all celebrate together :)

Stay tuned for my birthday celebration giveaway!

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show High

Ahhhh.......Still on an Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show high. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram (Yes, I finally joined the rest of the blogging world!), you already know about my time at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show because you were bombarded with pictures. But they were BEAUTIFUL pictures, so you can't get too irritated with the bombardment, right??? I live just under 3 hours from Sisters, and I've been invited to go a few times in the past but have never taken the offer because it was always on my husband's birthday weekend.  Well, last year my very loving and supportive husband told me that I should really go this year, so I did.....just to make him happy :)

The drive over there is through the mountains, and I have this VERY REAL fear of driving off the edge of the mountain, so I knew that I would have to get a ride. So at our last CMQG sew day, I kinda invited myself to ride along with Dana & Lynn of Winter Creek Cloth

We left bright and early on Saturday morning and met Connie of A Piecework Life, who decided to camp (Yuck!!!) with her family.

From left to right, Me, Connie, Dana, and Lynn
The quilt in the background was in the Portland Modern Quilt Guild's area. I posted this pic on Instagram, and within a short amount of time there was a comment from Kimberly at Perfection Not Included who said "Hi ladies! That's my quilt!" Nice job, Kimberly!

We had a lot of fun looking at all the beautiful quilts and just hanging out. We even got to meet a few of our peeps from the Portland Modern Quilt Guild. We'll be spending more time with them next month at the Pacific NW Modern Quilt Guild Meet-Up in Portland!! More on that later!

Going to the quilt show was so inspiring, and I came home ready to sew, sew, sew! I ordered a bunch of fabric from Winter Creek Cloth and should be pretty productive in the next few weeks.....should be.

For now, here are some pics for you to enjoy of some absolutely stunning quilts. I can't believe I didn't get more pics! So many that I thought I had but I didn't.  While I'd love to blame it on my phone, it was probably user error :/ If you know who made any of these quilts, please leave a comment so we can credit everyone. The only one that I know for sure is the last one - Violet Craft
